The Ycademy Seminar in December will focus on Christmas Media, namely on working with Adobe After Effects.In stead of producing static Christmas cards participants will be able to add motion, sound and other effects to produce a stunning customized Christmas Clip.

The Christmas Media Design Seminar will take place on December 17, 201, starting at 1 pm London time and closing at 9 pm London time.

As we have only one day available for the December Seminar, we will use all Daily Call sessions or an introduction into the secrets of After Effects. All pre-seminar calls will be recorded as well and video tutorials will be made available to seminar participants.

Goals

Acquire enough After Effects related knowledge to be able to work with After Effects templates and to customize, adapt or modify them.

All participants will create a customized Christmas Clip.

Materials

Participants need Adobe’s After Effects, preferably CS 5.5 64 bit version, however CS4 running on 32 bit will do.

For Customization, you may want to use some of your family photos or, if you create a business clip, some business related pictures , screen-shots or graphics.

All other materials, namely professional templates, will be provided.

“How to Edit and Publish Digital Photos” is the focus of the Ycademy Online Seminar in July.

Taking photos has become a relatively easy and cheap task with the proliferation of accessible digital cameras and mobile devices, such as smart-phones and tablets. Of course the quality of the pictures varies in function of the quality of the camera and the skill of the photographer. Some of the shortcomings can be compensated by improving skills and post editing.

The Seminar will deal with editing digital photos using namely Photoshop and OnOne Professional Photo Tools.

Editingand post editing have a lot to do with the purpose of the image as well as on the destination platform. We will look into different options and detail specific requirements for the mobile web.

The above sample shows that editing makes the image heavier! The more filters, masks and brushes we apply the more Kb we ad and the slower the image will load once on the site. Here it is getting interesting: the above image counts 124 Kb as shot (it has just been cropped to 300 pixels wide), then we have added 29 px while editing and in the end reduced the JPEG quality to end up with a final 27 Kb, i.e. 2 Kb less than what we added by editing, amd yet, the image is more dynamix, vibrant and sharper.

In order to use editing tools efficiently, we must acquire some knowledge about the different filters and masks. We need to learn some terminology and we need to learn to translate the desired results into professional lingo, so that we use the appropriate tool to achieve the desired result.

The absence of such knowledge results in a “roulette approach” and therefore to unpredictable results and bloated file sizes.

Publishing Images and Photos with Semiomantics XO on WordPress

With WordPress 3 many new features became available and Semiomantics exploits them with the recent XO versions. In as much as images, videos and galleries are concerned, XO provides special post formates which are ideal for Media Publishng.

We will explain the custom formates and how to create a specific media feed stream throughout an XO publishing Network.

To apply the new skills and knowledge, we will build a photo content management system on XO. To anticipate the work and to make the best use of the time we dispose of, we will start building the Photo Site during the 2 Pre-Seminar calls on Tuesday and Thursday next. During these two sessions we will namely focus on customization and design of the XO to end up with a photo site which will provide multiple media streams to be used on other sites of the network.

Subsequent to our previous post here is a step by step solution for people who don’t have the time or the means to thoroughly track and eliminate all instances of the hack. We will use this method on the YORGOO Press websites.

Basically the DataBase as well as some files on your server: mainly the index.php or html pages plus the hack adds new pages containing namely iframe injections. The files can be found anywhere from the root folder to wp-admin, wp-includes to wp-content. Also, additional sub-domains or subfolders may be attacked.

We experienced that comments may be subject to justified suspicion as well.

First, we will optimize the database tables and empty the comments and comments meta tables.

This is to get rid of comment related problems. From a content point of view this is the main sacrifice we will make. This step is optional and you could well give it a first shot preserving the comments.

From your Dashboard, export the content of your site.

In wp-contents on your server, check the uploads folder for hacked or added files. We preserve this folder as it contains our images and other media. Make sure no files have been added by the hack, namely php files.

Delete the folders wp-admin and wp-includes as well as all the files in the root, preserving wp-config.php after checking it for cleanliness.

Delete in wp-contents the plugins folder preserving eventual customizations of plugins, such as SlideDeck Pro Skins, adelete ll eventual cache or back-up folders, delete in the theme folder all themes except the one you are using. Test your theme for cleanliness.

Now we should have just the config.php file in the root and our theme in the theme folder as well as the clean uploads folder on the host.

From your cPanel, delete your database.

From your dashboard, create a new database and modify config.php accordingly.

Download the latest WordPress (3.2) from wordpress.org, unzip it and load the content of the ‘wordpress’ folder to your install folder overwriting what remains of the previous install.

Typethe admin access into the browser, follow the wizzard and login.

Here are the config priorities: General Settings, Permalinks, as well as delete the hello world post and all WordPress links in the Links archive. Add your Plugins, namely the ones relating to SEO and configure them.

Under Appearance, activate your theme, load the widgets and configure your theme; if you are using XO with a child, activate the child and then configure layout and design settings in the XO menu at the bottom left of the dashboard.

From the Dashboard, Import your content; by default servers allow uploads up to 2 MB — ask your host to temporarily increase that limit. YORGOO Times for example needs a limit in excess of 30 MB.

Check your website and apply fine-tuning where needed. Your content is loaded and all links should be as before if you use the same permalink structure.
